Article: Facebook Fatigue Kicks in as People Tire of Social Networks

Shhh! Can you hear a hiss? That's the sound of naughty facts deflating the social networking balloon a tad.

Whisper it, but numbers from web analytics outfit comScore have confirmed what the chatter in bars and cafes has been saying for months - people are, just, well, bored of social networks.

The average length of time users spend on all of the top three sites is on the slide. Bebo, MySpace and Facebook all took double-digit percentage hits in the last months of 2007. December could perhaps be forgiven as a seasonal blip when people see their real friends and family, but the trend was already south.

Library 2.0 and Failure: Interesting Article

"Has Elvis Left the Building?
By davidleeking on web2.0

Gee whiz.
Every now and then, someone decides to share that some new-fangled “library 2.0″
project didn’t work out … and others start claiming “After John Blyberg and
others come out and say that library 2.0 didn’t work and neither did tagging,
etc., the flood gates open.” Huh?

It might be good to remember two
things:

1. If one 2.0 project doesn’t work as expected, that doesn’t
mean that “library 2.0 didn’t work” as a whole.

2. Social 2.0 projects require “Elvis” to leave the building."

So easy even a caveman can do it… The Birmingham Public Library blog
makes it easy to see what is new and good at this terrific library. We’ll keep
tuning in in case our buddy Thagg decides to make a snow angel. Be sure to watch Thagg reserve his book.

Spy the Big Read

Looking for an intriguing way to spend a few minutes? Why not become a spy for "Project Mockingbird?"

Project Mockingbird does sound like a clandestine operation to foil an evil organization or something doesn’t it? So a Project Mockingbird video is being organized with a spy theme.

For the current idea, we need numerous pictures of spies opening a Project Mockingbird envelope and reading, “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Want to be a spy? Photos will be taken. Dark glasses, hats, and trench coats are optional.

BTW: If you have have any brilliant "spy" ideas for the video, let us know.

We have a date and a time!

The members of the L2Crew will meet in the Board Room on January 30 at 3:30 p.m. I would like for this to be a brainstorming session where we discuss ideas, thoughts, projects, etc. So put your thinking cap on and be thinking about all the things you have been interested in pursuing over the past few months.

Would somebody like to volunteer to be the official note taker?

Also, let me know if you will be able to make it or not.

Thanks and I look forward to us meeting f2f again.

Jan. 30 Meeting Take 2

Since most of you will be in a meeting the morning of January 30, can we meet at 3:30 p.m. or is that too late?

How about Jan. 30 For A Meeting?

Hello L2 Crew. How does Jan. 30 look for a meeting? It is the 5th Wed. of the month so I don't think there should be a regularly scheduled meeting then. Is there one scheduled? If there aren't any conflicts and if the date looks good, then I will schedule a place and time. I am presuming morning is better for most of you.

Happy New Year to each and everyone of you! Thanks for making 2007 a great year for BPL. Our crew has been in existence less than a year and yet we have completed some amazing projects. Let's make 2008 an even better year.

Would you all like to meet f2f and have a brain-storming session? I think it would not only be fun but would be beneficial to us all. I will try to find a date, time, and place for us to get together. Any ideas or suggestions?
