Photography Contest?

Sometimes I think that our staff gets wrapped up in what they are doing and forget to take photos.

To encourage people to take pictures at BPL, what do you think of a photography contest to choose the best pictures taken at BPL 2007 -2008. Photos might show displays, programs, candid shots of a staff member, or anything else at the library.

A selection committee may set up a few categories (like best staff shot, best display shot,...) or set it up as a best photo of the season (fall, winter, spring, summer). The top picks from the categories or season could be voted on by staff and the best picture award could be given at next year’s staff day.

In addition to recognition and adoration during staff day, maybe a small prize could be arranged for the best picture winner.

How to enter: post the photos on the Flickr upload account and tag them.

Photos judged on visual appeal, clarity & creativity?

Any ideas, opinions, or suggestions on this?

Sounds like a good idea to me. I don't even know who has a camera at Central. I'm sure Fiction could take some interesting photos.

I like this idea alot. It is a positive way to get staff to take photographs and to be creative about it.

Great. The photo contest is a go.

Check out the contest blog post with the animoto.com video here.

What do you think of the video?

This is a GREAT idea and I will be glad to include the winners at Staff Day. May I be a judge?

That animoto video was fast and simple to make. All that you need are the images to create a visual display akin to a music video.

After the images are uploaded and music selected, Animoto.com automatically generates professional looking videos using their "Cinematic Artificial Intelligence" technology.

If the video does not come out like you want just remix it to create a
customized orchestration of selected images and music.

You will need to create an account at http://animoto.com to create videos.Free accounts allow you create videos up to 30 seconds in length.

The video can be emailed or embedded in pages on websites including social networking sites like Blogger and MySpace.

Try it and have fun.
