Catch the Reading Bug Video

Are there any plans to do a "Catch the Reading Bug" promo video on YouTube?
There are many ways to go with this title:
  • Catching an illness called The Reading Bug
  • Turning pages with an eventual discovery that is an insect reading?
  • A book montage with titles from Sam & the Firefly to Miss Spider's Tea Party
  • Bugging (nagging) someone?
  • Someone eavesdropping (using a bug)
  • A kid chasing & catching a VW (bug) with books?
  • Computer virus - Why isn't little Susie using her computer this summer? The Reading Bug.
  • Having people with "bug" antennae on there heads at the library.

For more ideas watch this excellent professionally done “Catch the Reading Bug” psa promoting youth summer reading in Virginia.

Richard, the computer virus called the reading bug really stuck out to me, although any of them would be good.

That's a cute video. Love the cereal box as the bug's library.

Perhaps snapshots of staff wearing bug ears could be a side project. Maybe like the "Jump" video for Leap Year.

I like these ideas: 1) Turning of pages and eventually seeing a bug is reading the book. I guess it could read books like Miss Spider's Tea Party (my fave!) or other buggy books. 2) I'm with Hunter on the computer virus idea. It would be good to show kids reading actual books instead of using the Internet.

A shame we don't have a better teen program at BPL (or maybe the branches do and I'm just not aware of it because it's not promoted very much). This seems to be promoted better at other libraries. Maybe we could do one for teens. They seem to get left out a lot of the time.

I like the idea of turning pages and finally seeing a bug is reading a book. The video could show bugs reading books like Miss Spider's Tea Party (agree with Tressa, these are wonderful) as well as other children's books on butterflies, bettles, etc.

Look at the website www.cslpreads.org. There are some public service announcements, music and asl videos that we can use if we want to. The only thing that Janine has requested for sure is for us to create a video at the end of the program with our photos and the music from the above website.

Excellent! Doing a video with teens!

In June, Five Points is going to have a teen program on using Movie Maker. Maybe, we could make a video using one of these ideas.

Since this will be done at the library and want some participation maybe the teens having "bug" antennae on their heads at the library would be a good fit.

We could go ahead with the computer virus or turning of pages with a bug is reading ideas to have them ready before summer reading kicks off.

The www.cslpreads.org videos are great. English, Spanish and even a sign language version.

I still like making one or two of our own, but we should use those videos too.

We have all summer to blog Summer Reading videos/information, so we could use some from the site and we could create our own.

I love that Hip Hop song, though. Hope we can use that somehow. I love a good rap song. Is this the music Janine is referring to?
