What's the best way to notify blog readers about new posts? I'm going to have to admit that I'm a little dazed and confused about the different ways available to bloggers/readers.
I get notified about the BPL blog through RSS and email, but when I tried to use Feedblitz on my personal blog I'm not sure if it's working right. I did some practice runs for a few test blogs and was never notified. Plus, the BPL blog notifies me the next day about new entries.
Concerning the Fiction Dept. blog, I'd like staff to be notified about new posts immediately, and it seems like email is what gets checked most often.

I use both Google Reader and Bloglines to keep up with blogs that I want to read. If you have an account with Google, you will have immediate access to the Reader feature. If you don't, you need to create a Google account. For bloglines, go to www.bloglines.com and create an account. You can add the blogs that you read often in both the Google Reader and Bloglines. On a page where it contains RSS feed, there should be a icon which will have "RSS" or something to that effect. Click on that and it will give you the option as to where you want to save the blog RSS feed to. I am going to try to create a tutorial for this ASAP so that everyone can get a better understanding of it. This probably didn't help that much but maybe if I can get a tutorial for it, then maybe you can have a better understanding.
You need to have your staff subscribed to a blog reader. That way, anytime a new post appears in a blog, they will automatically get the update. Does the staff computers in fiction have Internet Explorer 7? If it does than the Internet Explorer 7 has a feed reader. Just like you would save something to your favorites, you can mark something to be saved to the rss feed.
Thanks for all the good info. My computer doesn't have IE7, but some of them do. I'll check into all this.
And a tutorial would be greatly appreciated.
I've got my own Geek Squad at home, so I can bug him, too.
Everyone in Catalog is required to have the Catalog blog as their home page. That way at least once a day you can see what is on the departmental blog. Also, we make everyone in Catalog put entries on the blog and not on email. It was difficult to get people to do that and it took awhile but now most people know to check the blog for info.
I am working on the tutorial. Don't expect it to be too great, yet. I just can't figure how to attach it to a post in this blog.
Everyone in Catalog is required to have the Catalog blog as their home page.
Now that's an idea.
