How about a woman or man walks up to check out a book, and is told (s)he owes $10 in fines. (S)He says, "hold on a moment" and digs around in her purse/his wallet and starts pulling out cans to pay for the fines. It could be a small purse or wallet and the cans could quickly be pulled out like clowns from a VW. I'm sure you could make it comical. Maybe the circulation employee could look down at the keyboard and look up to see a pyramid of cans on the counter.
